Oh, That Hurts.
I just spent hours writing a ridiculous, passionate, link-laden post about CNN, Sepia Mutiny and whether or not "we matter"...and then for the first time in the 18 months that I've owned it, my iBook crashed. That's not supposed to happen.
I lost everything. It was such a long post. It is gone.
This is the worst, emptiest sort of feeling. I was shaking with anger when I got home, after what happened. It took me almost two hours to calm down and write in the first place. And then this happens. And losing something you've worked on is bad enough, but the insidioius fear that something (which with my luck, wouldn't be covered by applecare) might happen to my baby, my lifeline, my mac? oh, that's untenable. I communicate, I look for jobs, I manage my life, I exist b/c of this bit of glossy white important in my lap. :(

oh that stinks!! and it has been thru so much already!;) i hope its fixable!!

How frustrating!! :( But you know what this reminds me of? Going to an event, or on vacation, and losing the pictures -- happens to all of us at some point, and then we console ourselves by remembering that what we've remembered in our heads and hearts about what we've experienced and seen can be more vivid than anything caught on film. That the pictures would have been great, but what we've captured organically can be just as powerful. (Like Brooklyn Brown's posts about his family after his camera was stolen a few weeks back.)
Yes, Sepia Mutiny matters. And the amazing thing is that at a moment like this one, a lot of us know it and feel it and experience it intuitively, without it even needing to be blogged or metablogged. :)
(Is it obvious that I'm from the midwest? See a bright side and silver lining in everything? And no, I don't work for Hallmark.)

Save, and save often (I write most of my posts in a simple text editor), then C&P into my blog.
Maybe it just wasn't meant to get posted ;-).

my hard drive crashed last january...with everything... the most valuable being all my travel pictures from the globe trotting... and some amazing family events... i paid through the damn NOSE to get that hard drive fixed... was it worth it? hell yeah... eons from now i won't think about the cost as i see the fantastic pictures of my family and friends doing silly things...
posts, i've lost quite a few... i didn't recover the word documents... just the pictures...
sometimes computers are a pain in the ass...
but a great lesson learned... back up everything..get an external hard drive...
good luck... and sm does matter ;)..
