...which is truly surprising, since I have had little to no exposure to either Malayalam or Tamil music. The end reminds me of one of the most adorable pictures I have ever seen on Fotolog, which was posted by Wincy, when her eldest was about a year old. :)

I heart memorable baby pictures. I don't mind my recent immersion in to fobulousness, either. ;) We'll make an yauthentic Malayalee penne out of me yet!

[i loved you.  i almost married you.  how could you?]

A Tryst with Live Jazz...

...I seem to be developing quite a crush on saxophone players.  Ahhhh, I <3 musicians.

:+:

Yeah, life sucks...but not when I'm sitting right next to a fantastic foursome who are jamming, as I sip a blue Kamikazee out of a martini glass (that was their fluorish, not mine...I ordered a shot).

I love Tryst.  And I love these "life preserver" moments I get tossed, just often enough to get by...

:+:

DAMN, this drummer is almost as spectacular as the sax player.  Not that I'm ever getting married, but if I do, jazz quartet, all the way... :)

solid as alt-rock

unimpeachable, bitches, originally uploaded by suitablegirl.

told you that detour to brit-ville was an exception, not the rule. ;)

a word about BRITNEY

...since TypePad isn't allowing me to leave a comment on my own blog, b/c it thinks I'm a spammer.  I blame you, Starbucks and TMobile.  Anyway...

Sriram, you know I know you think I rock and truly, that is one of the awesomest developments of the past year-- so please don't look at me with any less fondness just b/c I dig the REMIX as my belowed Nole correctly figured out. ;)

Here is how it all went down: I purchased a CD for cardio encouragement and was playing it for the first time in the car right after I bought it.  I perked up once this song I had never heard came on...I loved it.  Had no idea who it was, etc.  I pick up the CD cover b/c I'm at a stop light and I can't wait to see who sings track 4 and what it is called...and it's Britney.

I froze.

It couldn't be.  I liked HER?  It took a cacophony of angry honking to get me to notice that the light was patiently green. :D

I moped morosely-- how could *I* like a Britney Spears tune???  Then I devised a little test to protect my fragile sense of musical self-worth; I sent it to two loved ones who are also from NorCal and thus utterly vulnerable to the syrupy sweet power of vocal trance.  I didn't include any track info.  They both loved it and then cursed me out when I told them it was Britney. ;)  One of them STILL doesn't believe me and thinks I'm a sick fuck for playing such a joke on them  (Hi, Veena!). :D

I live for and because of music and I'll throw my taste in it down against ANYONE, even if I like two remixes of the erstwhile pop tart's hits.  :)  THAT is confidence, yo. In the last few years, I've met too many people who like all the "right things", whose taste is utterly predictable.  I say if you love music, love it unapologetically, no matter what a Pitchforkian might think.  Word to Sean Preston's mother.

one less blank CD...

Just_burned

...in honor of my pop-py, pink, sanrio-humping, totally asian, northern california roots.  yeah, i like 92.7; i ain't scared to admit it.  mmmm, yummy disposable vocal trance. ;)  it's the pefect soundtrack for packing...

It's Elemental: the playlist

I've become quite the evangelist for ZipCar, despite one horrible Saturday when the untenable state of the Mini I hearted so much nearly ruined the SM meetup by helping me be very late...

I meant to post my "Steal My Cherry" list from this morning's clusterfuck of bad timing which was only made bearable by the fact that I got to pilot "Mini Maraschino" (they all have fun names) while suffering, but it turns out I ended up zipping a second time today.  I was so stressed about work, home and the impending move, I needed to do something soothing for myself--I adore driving so that's what I chose.  I lucked out and nailed a brand new Volvo (make your soccer mom jokes, I don't give a shit).  I was ecstatic as I sailed up Mass Ave...until I realized the XM wasn't installed yet.

:(

Aside from being able to sample unbearably cute and fun cars, my next favorite thing about ZipCar is the XM radio.  No commercials AND music which could've been selected from MY library?  Bliss.  Alas, downshifting expertly had to be the only thing which put a smile on my face-- good thing I favor manual transmissions, it almost made me forget the injustice of no XM.

Since I surely would've had a "Velocity of Volvo" playlist, I instead choose to focus on what I CAN control and leave you with this: a set I never posted, from a previous Zippy adventure...and that thing I always say about whatever song coming on at a given time NOT being random at all...um, yeah.

THIS is what is wrong with the world

I'm forcing myself to drink some very milky coffee because I have no desire to move/leave my bed or consume anything.  Coffee is located across from my building, in this ridonkulously gorgeous hotel, so both missions have been accomplished.  But at what price?

I'm listening to...no, I can't type it.

But I must.

I must stand up to this outrage being piped through unobtrusively mounted speakers.

speed of sound

predictably, once i got a nano last october, i ignored my shuffle like it smelled.  this is what happens when i don't update or even turn on my lesser iPod:

-wayyy too much juggy d
-coldplay (!)
-def leppard
-keane
-And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

thank goodness i also had 300 megs of pixies on the device which has no screen or that would've been the subwary ride from hell.

oh, snap?

i do believe that i am the only human in this country who is capable of hearing, who has not heard this "laffy taffy" joint yet.  everyone rants about it, hatred dripping from their bared fangs, meanwhile i'm left wondering "wtf?"

wow, between the nano and npr, i really do live on my own planet of sound.
