» Bhopal: Twenty Years Later, An Ill Wind Still Kills from PRASHANTKOTHARI.COM
Twenty years ago, families in Bhopal were awakened in the middle of the night by terrible burning in their eyes and lungs. Within minutes, children, mothers and fathers staggered into the street, gasping for air. As they ran in complete... [Read More]

so sad. :(

What to do, what to say, how to step towards action? Times like this when I really wish it was okay to use force against someone as evil as the CEO of Dow chemicals.

I love how people will leave twenty comments on your blog on trivial partisan hackery, but no one has anything to say when confronted with true horror. Tsk.

What happened is just sickening. Have you thought about doing anything suggested on their website?

I'll post this here too because Anna gets more readers than I, and rightly so.

Here is a way to give free money to those good people running Bhopal.net

Go to the petition page. Sign if you must, but you don't have to. What you SHOULD do is page through the signatures till you get Google ads on the right. Google's system is such that it searches your website and determines who in their database would be good to list as Google ads.. right? well, #1 is DOW CHEMICAL - who pays per click for that ad to BE there. So click it. You want information on them, right??? of course, right!

ps. Dow pays money (to Google) and Bhopal.net gets money (from Google) just cause you clicked. Click, and click often ;)

Also, send them real money to support the cause. I'm sure they'd like that as well.

That was absolutely horrible, I had not even heard of this tragedy- until I read it on Sepia Mutiny and read it here, thanks for sharing this story on here. If this tragedy had happened in the US - Dow Chemicals would be bankrupt and the CEO would be living in a cardboard box... It's horrible that the Indian government does not fight for our people... It's such a great loss of human life.....

I haven't seen some of these pictures since I was a little kid. We moved to the US in 1983 and I believe I first heard about this while I was watching TV with my parents when I was 6 years old. It's one of my oldest memories and I remember feeling confused and sick about it. These pictures bring out the same amount of disgust now as they did then. And I'm glad. Years should not diminish the volume of this tragedy.

Powerfull words. Thank you for posting this.

Thank you. Deeply touched.

And please don't be shy about posting the photos --

Graphic? yes.

Effective? Hell, yes!

Bhopal is one of my earliest memories too. I was 6 years old and we had relatives who ran out of their homes. They were unharmed. Even at 6, I remember missing a lack of general outrage among people around me, in news channels(channel-there was only 1 then) and in conversations.

Realy touching ....thanks for posting.

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
Mount of Thy redeeming love.

Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Here by Thy great help I’ve come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood.

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

O that day when freed from sinning,
I shall see Thy lovely face;
Clothed then in blood washed linen
How I’ll sing Thy sovereign grace;
Come, my Lord, no longer tarry,
Take my ransomed soul away;
Send thine angels now to carry
Me to realms of endless day.

i think if you vote more than once a day, it's cheating though...so be careful. last year you won 3rd place for "best essayist"...this year i hope you win first, in either categorie. =)

Very moving indeed.

I have been researching on Bhopal's gas leak for many years..I am going to go visit next year hopefully..I want to take some action against Dow Chemicals because they just don't care..and we need to show them that we care and we cannot let this pass by.
