living in oblivion

Friday's 55 words of fiction:

She nervously adjusted her sari,  hoping no one noticed.  So far, the night had gone flawlessly; she had made a good impression on everyone, she could just tell.

The older woman at the table noted how silk was tugged upwards.  Taking a delicate sip of tea, she thought, “She’s not good enough for our family.”

“She’s not good enough for our family."
Lucky you!

do you ever leave comments that make sense? you do know this was fiction, right?

why did she wear a sari in d first place? maybe a salwar might've been a safer option.

of course, if she wore a SALWAR a judmental future mother-in-law would have DEFINITELY been won over. it's always that easy. :p

beyond that, it's an author's perogative to dress her characters how they please. i'm amazed at what kinds of comments one not-so widespread meme inspires. it's an ultra short short. it's fine as is.

Belly-laughed out loud!! This might be my favorite yet. Keep 'em coming :)

Sari? Salwar?
Jeans would be better. Start off the marriage by showing the mother in law who the boss is, by winning over the guy. If he is not a wimp, that is. If he is, bump that.

lol charley =)

with my luck, i'd wear the sari and as soon as i entered the house, i'd trip, fall, and as i'm falling knock over everyone standing around me.

6.04.04 the inspiration for this...

Sunu, :) Part of the fun. Carry some hot tea, and spread the love. Guaranteed that you will get to the next stage in the process.

I did go through the arranged marriage process myself, and met a couple of women who did NOT want to be there. Boy, did they take it out on me. I learnt pretty quickly not to pay home visits without talking to them on the phone first.

Hey, it worked for me. There was no awkward first meeting or saris/salwars with my future wife, and we 'dated' for a year before we married.

The URL on my first comment was messed up, I want to say by typepad, but I think it was me.

Oh the saree.....by definition 6mt of cloth that can't cover you properly...i can relate to the pain of wearing sarees not that i have to wear that to see my future mum in law...
